Star girl

Christine Tillman

I've always loved constellation artwork, and stars in general.  I've been looking for artwork for the new home, and came across Christine Tillman (pictured above).  In our living room there's already a piece by Dan-Ah Kim (left) (available at Little Paper Planes) and Dan McCarthy (right).

So, I'm looking forward to purchasing some of Tillman's art to further the theme that's emerging.

But the star artwork reminds me of my first star-loving book, Find the Constellations by H. A. Rey.  I'm going to admit something though.  I didn't realize Rey, of Curious George fame, wrote Find the Constellations too.  I didn't realize this, an hour ago, actually.  My 7-year-old self was not interested in connecting the author to the two totally different books, I guess.  I just remember loving the little people illustrations and the quirky-sweet constellation illustrations.  It's funny, later in life I became much more interested in following specific authors (Lois Lowery was one of the first authors I devoured and specifically sought -- I think I checked out all she had in the local library by the stack.  Lowery and Marguerite Henry.)

But anyway, back to Rey.  This book is absolutely charming, and I am going to go out and get my grubby little hands on a copy.  I'm sure my mom still has it somewhere, but I need my own.

Related, also by Rey:

  1. Oh my goodness! I have had my eye on piece by Tillman for awhile! Have you gotten it yet? I'm sure it's gorgeous in person.

  2. Not yet -- but soon! Soon, definitely.
